IC Information:
Name: Urdnot Wrex/Miles Lewis
Canon and medium: Mass Effect 1/2/3, video game
Age: Miles is 35. Wrex is over 300.
Preincarnation Species: Krogan
Preincarnation Appearance: .
7 foot tall, broad and stocky bipedal reptillian humanoid with a huge hump on his back (like a camel's) and deep scars going down on the right side of his crest, face and neck.
Any differences: Almost everything, though Miles's build and propensity for wearing body armour comes close. But Miles is firmly human, while Wrex is firmly a huge reptillian humanoid.
To be more specific, Miles is a beefed-up black man that dresses well, keeps his head smoothly shaved and his goatee neatly trimmed, and wears a thick college ring from his football days at LCU. His facial expressions generally range from unimpressed to pissed off and his body language indicates that he is in no mood for shenanigans at pretty much any time. (Played by Terry Crews!)
Preincarnated History: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Urdnot_Wrex
Also http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Krogan for a rundown of the species' background.
Born into Clan Urdnot nearly three hundred years before the story of Mass Effect starts, Wrex rose through the ranks of Krogan society quickly due to his, as the website states, prowess in battle. The first to kill the Thresher Maw on Tuchanka in ages during his Rite, the first youth to become a tribe leader in a thousand years, he went on to become one of the galaxy's most reknowned (and infamous) mercenaries, a Krogan Battlemaster, able to use weaponry and biotics with equal ease and deadliness.
Despite his being a ruthless merc, he is also greatly concerned with the plight of his people. Many Krogan had fallen into a nihilistic rut once the genophage had taken hold, reducing their viable births to a tiny fraction of what they once were. Wrex is one of few Krogans wanting to break out of that and find a cure and change the future of his people. Given how notoriously hot-headed and violent krogran can be, nothing so far had worked. This led to a fallout even with Wrex's father, whom he killed after having been ambushed by him. As the website states, "With his father's betrayal Wrex's eyes were opened to the truth about the Krogan: most would rather die in battle than try to rebuild their society." It was after this Wrex left Krogan society.
He meets Shepard when she comes to the Citadel after the attack on Eden Prime. Either because of similar goals or an admiration for her ability to get into all kinds of trouble (probably both), Wrex decides to follow Shepard.
Their conflict comes on the planet Virmire, where the rogue Spectre, Saren Arterius, has found a means of "curing" the genophage and has been breeding Krogan. The Salarian special unit, the STG, were planning to destroy the facility. Enraged by this, Shepard is tasked with confronting Wrex and trying to talk sense to him and have him stand down. Knowing that this may be the cure for his people that he has been looking for, he reluctantly, angrily makes the decision to move forward and destroy the facility, trusting Shepard when she claims that, though Saren may have cured the genophage, the Krogan would be little more than puppets under him. From there he helps Shepard as they go back to the Citadel to take down Saren, wanting to punish him as much as anyone. All is well between him and Shepard when the game ends.
The second game finds Wrex as leader of clan Urdnot, not without opposition, but with overwhelming support of the females who wish to see the Krogan advance past their pointless warmongering and rebuild. Alerted to the new threat of the Geth and the Reapers, Wrex has been able to begin drawing together the Krogan tribes. After she arrives on Tuchanka, Wrex is especially happy to discover Shepard alive after her having been "spaced" at the beginning of the game. Though he cannot join her due to his position as clan leader, he facilitates Grunt's passage through the Rite and brings him into Clan Urdnot. It is revealed, as Shepard searches for Maelon, a student of Mordin's, that the Salarian approached Wrex with an offer to research and cure the genophage. Wrex turned down this offer due to the need of Krogan subjects to study, which ultimately led to the subjects' deaths.
The third game, with the Reaper invasion, sees action again with Wrex, who demands from the Salarians the cure for the genophage if they desire the aid of the Krogan people. He joins Shepard on Sur'Kesh to take back the fertile female krogan that still lives, the sole successful result of their experiments, where they are attacked by Cerberus, who does not wish to see an alliance between the Turians and Krogan. With Eve's rescue and Shepard's having saved Maelon's research data from the second game, they are able to both keep Eve alive and have Mordin create a cure for the genophage using both Wrex and Eve's DNA. Another issue is a bomb the ancient Turians planted on Tuchanka, and in order to seal the alliance, must be dealt with before the Krogan move forward.
The return to Tuchanka has its own problems; a Reaper guardian is on the planet, and there is still opposition from his brood-brother Wreav to deal with. However, with the cure in hand, Wrex is more determined than ever to return and get the job done. Shepard also reveals to him the Salarian Dalatress' offer of betrayal to sabotage the genophage. They find they cannot deal with the Reaper on their own, and decide to summon the great Thresher Maw to deal with it instead. In the process, it eats Wreav. Wrex mentions only that his brother had always been "a pain in the ass".
Once the cure had been dispersed and Mordin had sacrificed himself in order to see it done, Wrex thinks a little more benevolently of the Salarians- or of Mordin, at least. The Krogan rally to Wrex in order to help Shepard fight the Reapers, and go to Palaven in order to aid the Turians with the Reapers there, as promised.
Wrex ends up in London in the final push against the Reapers. A final word with Shepard reveals Eve's successful pregnancy and his encouragement to Shepard- even if they fail now, she has united the whole galaxy, and that, in itself, is a victory.
At the end of the game, Wrex returns to Tuchanka, victorious over the Reapers and ready to welcome and lead a new age of renewal to the Krogan people.

Reincarnated History: Miles's life wasn't so bad for the most part of his life. Arguably, it wasn't bad at all. The middle of three kids (two sisters), he grew up in Locke City a neighbourhood or two away from the Dead District. His father was a phys ed teacher at LCHS and his mother did custom clothing alterations out of their living room. Miles got into trouble, but never anything big- he and his sisters were known to police as brats, but would always be brought home from this or that shenanigan spread out between the back and the front seats of the police car.
He credits his father with his love of reading, something he was surprised to notice growing up not many of his friends had. He wasn't the best student, but maintained respectable grades and did well in sports. He was a lost cause in anything artsy, but sang in the choir at church every Sunday next to his older sister. At their mother's urging, they were often out in the community, and Miles got his first job at the nearby recreation center helping run programs during the summer. They paid him back in judo lessons and pizza.
His family wasn't particularly well off- he was glad that he was a boy, because it meant he rarely got hand-me-downs. His first big purchase, a CD player, he got with his own money from his summer job and doing various odds and ends for neighbours, and much of his music was either burned onto CD by friends or borrowed from the library. His parents did what they could to make life easy on their children without letting them see too many of their problems. Miles still remembers late-night trips to the bathroom revealing secret meetings at the dinner table, his parents pouring over bills and receipts and doing their best to make ends meet. A few problem family members didn't help- at least one uncle was constantly getting into problems with a local gang, gambling too much and requiring comparitively expensive bailouts. Miles started saving up his money after that as best he could, though it was hard to say no to a new CD or two.
He played high school football and won a scholarship into LCU to continue doing the same. He got into real trouble once with the cops for beating up his younger sister's boyfriend for hitting her. No charges were pressed, but he was suspended for three games because of it. It is still the only blemish on his record. Although he got into smoking in eleventh grade, he was never a drinker (neither were his parents) and steered clear of drugs. Seeing an uncle or two have so many problems with them, he decided that life wasn't for him, and aside from the cigarettes stayed clean.
Due to his family's financial situation, he was given special permission to get a job outside of his scholarship. A friend of his got him a spot on mall security, and from his second year at LCU on spent very little time at home, divided between school, the gym, and the mall. His elder sister had since moved out of the house to move halfway across the country for her own schooling and his little sister would be graduating high school soon enough- life was busy, and it had some ups and downs, but it was good.
Good until his dad got sick. Cancer by the looks of things, a tumor in his lungs that had progressed too far by the time he finally got it checked out. It was a mercifully short five months until he died, but not merciful enough for those he left behind- the medical bills alone were more than they could pay off between Miles and his mother's job. Miles did his best to supplement, hated that his little sister went immediately to work at some low-end fast food place to try and help pay the bills. The summer took a lot out of him, forcing himself to work as much overtime as he could. It wasn't a fun job- it might have been when he'd started, but now it was simply a chore that he threw himself into.
He graduated, somehow. Some sob story about perserverence. There were offers to go on to the major leagues and play football there, but the idea of leaving his mother didn't sit well with him. Despite the protestations of his colleagues, he stayed in Locke City and kept his job at the mall. What he did end up doing was move on to higher level security- finding that the mall job wasn't paying enough, without good enough benefits, he went out and was hired at a private firm to do security there as a second job. The idea of using guns didn't appeal to him, but he got his firearms license and got back into judo, which he'd fallen out of when he'd graduated high school. His temper, which had been positive, if not downright cheerful, took a nosedive. It got him into trouble once at the mall, where an altercation with a mall patron led to something snapping- or maybe more like popping?- inside of him, and he shut the man up with a well-placed headbutt. It was satisfying, but disorienting. It'd seemed like such a little thing, nothing at all compared to his sister's ex-boyfriend, nothing at all worthy of such an outlandish reaction, but it seemed the natural course of action. He was suspended from the mall job for a week, but decided not to think too much on it while he had all of that free time to.
Despite everything he did for his family, he came to realize how detached he'd become when he noticed that, no matter how hard he worked, they always seemed to be no better off. Confronting his mother on it one night, she admitted that she had been giving his uncle a good portion of the money, citing this or that financial problem, looking lost and tired. Keeping his anger as best he could to himself, he went out to find said uncle.
A few phonecalls and a couple of housecalls later, he found the man being cornered by what he could only conclude were a bunch of thugs outside of a club on the outskirts of the Business District, well known for its shady gambling practices. In trying to pry his uncle away, he discovered his uncle's massive debts incurred there, and even got into a fight with one of the men, the bouncers at said club, who were demanding the debt repaid.
With one man down and the other on his back, they were interrupted by two more men, one clearly a bodyguard of some kind, and the other the one meant to be guarded, given his attire. His uncle was grabbed onto before he could run away and Miles was pulled off by the second guard and punched to snap him out of his rage. The well-dressed man considered the situation thoughtfully, seeing how easily Miles had downed one of his men, and asked for further clarification.
Varric Tethras was nothing if not a businessman. Seeing an opportunity presenting itself, he offered an exchange of services. Seeing Miles's capability, he said he would be more than willing to wipe out his uncle's debt if Miles were willing to work for him.
It was a hard decision. Miles said he would accept only on one condition- that his uncle would be automatically banned from any of the man's establishments should he ever try to sneak himself back in. Maybe there was more he could have asked for- he didn't want to push his luck. An agreement was reached.
Since then, his family has started to do better, bit by bit. He claims his private security job gave him a pay raise- in actuality, he quit the private security firm to dedicate himself more fully to Varric's operations, keeping the mall job as an excuse and the truth to give to his mother. His uncle is kept far, far away from his family- so are a lot of other people, now. He recently was able to hire some people to fix up the house, knowing his mother would never move, and to get his own place in an apartment building not too far away. He acts as bodyguard and bouncer where necessary and keeps a low profile in everything he does.

First Echo: An argument with an out-of-line mall patron while working a security shift several months ago led Miles to rear back and headbutt the guy, then yell "YOU WILL STAND DOWN" at him while the guy writhed on the ground. (And then he got suspended for a week ): ) Headbutts are the traditional way of Krogan to show their disagreement with people they believe to be overstepping their boundaries. He may not have gotten all that, but the idea that it was right and satisfying still stick with him.

Preincarnation Personality: Wrex is kind of an asshole. He is ruthless and blunt, not afraid to tell a person off for what he sees as their faults (usually for not using enough violence), but he is also an opportunist. He has his goals- curing the genophage and bringing his people back to their former glory- and much of what he does is geared towards these things. Having lived so long as a mercenary, his ethics are generally questionable. Unless the job is somehow in conflict with his own goals, his services go to the highest bidder.
However, he also has an idea of right and wrong in a big picture sense. He knew Saren was big trouble, and knew that any power he got would go towards something terrible. As Shepard sets out to save the galaxy, Wrex is there with her 100%- so long as nothing she does conflicts with his Krogan agenda. And if it does? She'd better have a damned good reason for it.
He loves violence, the rush of battle and the glory of victory. He is stubborn and will use fear to get his way (and brutality if that doesn't work). One could argue he's as happy to be on the path to recovering the Krogan's glory as actually attaining it because of all the fighting along the way.
A lot of his own rage is caused by frustration, seeing his people give in to nihilism, unable to control themselves and stop their own downward spiral, unable to focus on important matters such as breeding over stupid things like in-fighting with other tribes and other clans. He may want to see their renewal, but he'll be the first to admit what a bunch of dumbasses they are for failing to see what's important for them if they, as a race, wish to survive.
Tuchanka makes for a rough upbringing. It gives you a thick skin and a no-nonsense attitude. He respects strength and fearlessness and hates cowardice and underhanded means of combat. The genophage has made him bitter against the Council races, the Turians and Salarians in particular, as they practically neutered the Krogan, but still use them for their own purposes as hired mercenaries and again to wipe out the Rachni a second time- the first bringing about the reason the genophage was sprung on the Krogan in the first place.
Overall, despite his blunt, overwhelmingly mocking nature, he is a professional and respects those that do their work in a professional manner. While he may seem inflexible, he is one of the more open-minded Krogan, and anyone who proves themselves in battle has the opportunity to earn his grudging respect, regardless of race. He does not tolerate betrayal and you had better have a good relationship with him if you want him to hear you out. Stupidity earns his sass.

Any differences: To start, Miles is not into violence. That sounds strange, but he isn't a big fan of it. The headbutting was a weird thing for him to go through- he was annoyed, he was angry, but there was no reason for that, not like when he beat up his sister's boyfriend. He doesn't go out seeking to hurt people, and a lot of what he knows is for defensive purposes only. Though not quite a pacifist, his aim is to protect people. He still feels ashamed for the few times he's slipped.
He's not a huge asshole, either. He'd rather keep his mouth shut than point something out more often than not. It's better to try and help someone than push them into a certain way of thinking. Another means of trying to keep the peace, which his dad was always a big spokesman for. But he isn't above physical intimidation and will easily use his huge frame to try and deter someone before he has to speak or use force.
There's no drive or purpose to what Miles does, certainly not to the extent of his preincarnation. He wants to keep his family safe and his mom happy and comfortable. That's about it. He's had a few girlfriends, but he could never imagine settling down with any of them. He feels almost like his life has stagnated and he's simply going along for the ride.

Abilities: Wrex's title of Battlemaster is a rare one because it recognizes not only his martial, but also his biotic ability, which are highly uncommon (and feared) in Krogan. Biotics mostly manifest as telekinetic psychic powers. He relies on maximum damage and economy of movement. In the first Mass Effect game, his powers are listed as such:
Assault Rifles (also granting the skill Overkill, which allows for longer firing periods- weapons overheat but do not take up ammo)
Shotguns (also granting the skill Carnage, a slow but more powerful shotgun blast)
Combat Armor (tied into shield strength and duration)
Fitness (ups health and immunity)
Warp (From the website: "Warp lowers the armor on a target, increasing the damage the enemy takes, as well as dealing damage over time.")
Throw (From the website: "Throw uses mass effect fields to hurl a target away from the user with damaging force.")
Barrier (From the website: "Barrier surrounds the user with a high-gravity mass effect field essentially strengthening the player's shields for a certain period of time (or until the extra points are taken off by damage, whichever comes first). Barriers do not protect against physical damage like melee attacks, debris or environmental hazards.")
Stasis (From the website: "Stasis causes an enemy to be temporarily locked in a mass effect field, freezing the target in place and making them unable to attack. Enemies in Stasis also become impervious to damage.")
Being three hundred years old, he has a good understanding of a variety of weapons (presumably also a lot of melee-style weapons and grenades) and has good mastery over his biotic powers. He can also beat the shit out of people his his bare hands.
Krogans are also known to have "blood rage", which lowers their inhibitions towards pain and ups their speed and attack and will fight without any regard towards their personal safety. Wrex has a better handle on this than most- it takes a lot to get him that riled up.
He has a good grasp on the technology of the Mass Effect world.
Krogan physiology makes them extremely adaptable and impervious to just about everything. They have multiple major organs (heart, lungs, testicles, etc) and secondary nervous system, making them very hard to kill.
